Supplement Reaching for the
Stars The new Expo Supplements add powerful reach and
influence to Africa Magazine's Circulation package
, as new distribution points target Travel and
Tourism leaders. Our warehouse in Vancouver, Canada
is going strong, with shipments heading in every
direction - such as Harvard business School and
major travel industry events, such as the Outside
Travel Expo in Chicago and the New York Times
Travel Show. January's Adventures in Travel Expo at
the Javits Center in Manhattan, drew over 22,000 on
the coldest week of the year. There was a large
African contingent of exhibitors, anchored by
Africa Travel Magazine and the Africa Travel
Association. Cameroon, Africa
in One Country hosts the Africa Travel
Association's 29th International
Congress The Cameroon Ministry of Tourism will host the
Africa Travel Association (ATA) 29th International
Marketing Congress, May 27,2004 in Douala, the
country's commercial capital and the largest port
city in West and Central Africa. The joint
announcement was made by Hon. Pierre Hele, Minister
of Tourism, Cameroon and Mira Berman, ATA Executive
Director. "We are building on the success of ATA's
Cultural and Ecotourism Symposium that was held in
Yaounde, Cameroon in December 2001." The SAWA Hotel
in Douala, will be the Congress Headquarters. The
annual ATA conference attracts a large contingent
of North American travel professionals and their
African colleagues each year. Carriers offering
special rates for delegates include: Cameroon
Airlines, SN Brussels Airlines, and South African
Airways. Congress Program: The annual ATA Chapter
Presidents Forum and "Doing Business Together"
sessions include roundtable meetings between U.S.
and Cameroon tour operators, organizers and ground
operators. "How to market to the U.S. Consumer" is
a key topic on the marketing agenda. According to
Mira Berman, ATA Executive Director, "the dates for
the congress were set so that it would immediately
follow Festival of Guinea in Conakry and precede
Indaba 2004, May 7-11 in Durban, South Africa.
Special connections and discount packages are
available for those planning to participate in
ATA/Indaba workshops. "Africa in One Country," is how Minister
Hon. Pierre Hele describes his ecotourism paradise
- so what else makes Cameroon such a hot item for
today's North American travel professional, meeting
planner, tour organizer and business traveler? It's
safe and friendly for starters. In addition, the
whole country of 200 ethnic cultures is a shopper's
delight, with a favorable exchange rate for U.S.
dollars. Are political stability and Religious tolerance setting an Africa wide
example? How much will tourism benefit from wise
stewardship? Several hundred travel industry
executives, government officials and tourism
investors will find out by sharing their knowledge
and views. This important assembly includes ATA's
annual Tourism Ministers Convocation preceding the
Congress. Host Country Day Activities: On Host
Country Day, ATA delegates will visit banana, tea
and rubber plantations near Mount Cameroon, stroll
through the world famous Limbe Botanical Gardens.
Limbe's Seme Beach Hotel, will host a luncheon, and
a festive "homecoming" dinner and celebration
awaits the visitors upon their return to
Douala. Many happy returns - for those who savored
the success of ATA's Cultural, Ecotourism and
Investment Symposium in 2001. Located on the Atlantic Coast in Central Africa,
Cameroon (population 15,000,00) is bordered by
Nigeria, Gabon, Chad, Central African Republic,
Congo and Equatorial Guinea. While there are over
200 tribal groups, the main languages of commerce
are French and English. Much of the architecture
remains from the country's days as a German colony.
Cameroon's Atlantic Ocean coastline extends 400 km,
offering long stretches of beach. The varied
climate ranges from tropical rain forest to open
Savannah, with high mountain ranges on the North
West border. Throughout Cameroon, there are areas
of thermal springs for those who like an outdoor
health spa retreat. As they say, "A little bit of
everything." Pre Post Congress tours ATA Membership and Congress Information: email :africatravelasso@aol.com , tel (212)
