At 56 years old, having been formed in its infancy by the biggest names in haute couture, Blaz Design is the first African to be part of the short-list of global fashion icons, established by the World Fashion Organization. Return on an extraordinary journey that could be emulated in his native Cameroon.
The centerpiece of his latest collection asked 500 hours of manual labor. Puffed shoulders, slit bold yet understated, fabric loincloth set of pearls, the dress stands in the museum of the United Nations in New York, alongside models signed Yves Saint Laurent and Prada. Blaz Design, stylist born in Cameroon , is, since April 2011, the first African to appear on the list of forty global fashion icons established by the World Fashion Organization, an agency of the UN. At 56 years, it is now encased in prizes and awards. Is happy with it? No, for him, everything is still to be done.
Eternal youth
From an early age, I Essomba, which is not yet known as the
Blaz Design, likes to battle and sew clothes. A
passion that quickly open the doors of the world to native
Bingala near Yaounde. At
age 19, he joined the School of Arts and Crafts in Brussels,
Belgium, and the completion of his training, he went to
Paris, where he worked for artistic creation with Pierre
Cardin and Christian Dior and finally at Yves Saint Laurent. Experience
that today it retains fond memories. In
1978, the fabric has no secrets for him when he created the
Blaz Design in Paris. He
was then 24 years old and dreams of African women sublimate. In
1984, he opened his couture house in Cameroon, where he now
resides with his wife and six children when not between two
planes.
Since then, the stylist is a symbol of success, an inspiration for the youth of Cameroon. The job, Blaz Design practice for 32 years already, with no ride is not yet drawn on his face. His youth, he says, he has the love he offers through his creations: "when you are full of love and it distributes, it is difficult to grow old," says Will he said with a disarming seriously. His voice is sometimes hesitant, but his commitment, he does not falter. "By allowing others to use my talent, I was doing, without knowing it, one of the principles of haute couture: to create well-being," says he.

In 2011, he created the foundation medical-surgical Nsisim Maria Rosa, an idea that comes from the revolt of his wife, touched to know that in some remote areas of Cameroon, a patient may lose their lives because of drugs. Since then, the structure became the first private hospital in Yaounde, it provides the most vulnerable healthcare quality at lower cost. "My idea is that we can not claim to be rich if we buried his wealth in safety deposit boxes. I know that life is short. I try to make myself useful by participating every day to improve the lives of those around me. "
Blaz Design talent also shines in the highest spheres of the country. Chantal Biya, First Lady of Cameroon, and has some of his creations, while soldiers are dressed in an outfit he designed.
