Ellen Christiansen Posell, an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many, died Sunday, April 11, 2004 surrounded by her loved ones. She was 59. The cause of death was a result of complications from a lung disease she recently contracted. Ellen was a native of Denmark who lived in the U.S. for over thirty years but was well known as a "world traveler" and an ardent supporter and board member of the African Travel Association. She was a woman with impeccable taste, unbridled energy and a constant enthusiasm to make the lives of others happier. Ellen is survived by Richard Posell, her husband for nearly thirty-two years; their son, Alex; step children Rachel and Jordan; grandchildren Max, Zachary, Isabel; brothers Poul and Jesper; and innumerable friends and acquaintances.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2:30 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Old North Church, Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, 800-204-3121, forestlawn.com. Directions can also be found on www.posell.com Contributions can be made in Ellen's name to the African Wildlife Foundation, 1400 16th St. NW, Ste 120, Washington, DC 20036, 1-888-4WILDLIFE, awf.org

Thank you for the coverage in Africa Travel Magazine of the memorials to Ellen Posell's involvement with Africa.  I would like to add to it.  Ellen and I first met at a chapter meeting when I was looking for a roommate for an ATA Congress.  We agreed to meet for lunch to discuss quirky things that can ruin a roommate relationship.  She doesn't snore.  I do when very tired.  She spreads out & needs lots of room.  I an very compact and don't need lots of space.  We are both neat and will clean our areas before leaving our room.  Well, we decided it would work.  And it did for the 4 or 5 times we roomed together after our first trip.  She was always positive and willing to share her extensive knowledge while on safari.  She is missed and will be for a very long time.
