high profile
Scoring
high on Google, Yahoo and MSN, the internet's, most
highly respected search engines, beats any
popularity poll. Such consistent results prove that
our 12 years as publishers of Africa Travel
Magazine are making their mark. These daily #1, 2
and 3 ratings reflect our website's appeal to
upscale, educated adult readers, who are sincerely
interested in a positive, forward looking message
about Africa travel, trade and tourism. We're
official voice of the Africa Travel Association,
whose members know the territory, having staged
world class events in 33 African cities since 1976.
In addition, our ATA President and many board
members are African Tourism Ministers. Others
represent airlines, hotels, tour companies and
educators.
Value-added
bonus for print advertisers

many of today's tuned in, turned on professionals

of North America's top print media; the eye appeal
of Conde Nast; the life span of National Geographic
and the variety of Readers Digest. To catch,
capture and command the viewer's attention, our
headlines telegraph the core message. To aid
navigation, our new color coded top bars, and 'mini
menus" on side bars keep them going in the right
direction. The visitor's attention is further
riveted by a wealth of cultural, wildlife and
nature photography, plus scenes of Africans in
action at events worldwide. We offer hundreds of
great images - and each gallery page is linked to a
specific country or region.
The
Power of Positive Searches
Need
more proof? Valuable statistics are gathered by
regular searches on Google, MSN and Yahoo, North
America's most powerful search engines. The
quickest way to judge a web site's power, and
performance is to search using basic words. You
cannot get more basic than "Africa Travel," or
"Africa Fashion" - simple words that open the
floodgates to millions of web pages worldwide. See
the amazing search figures below and read our ""Did
you Know" items.
Keeping
Pace with Technology
by
Jerry W. Bird
One
of the blessings of today's Digital Age is the ease
which we can archive the results of our efforts
from the past several decades - and leave a
footprint in the sands of time. From thousands of
photo images taken during numerous trips to and
from the African Continent, to conference reports,
focus groups, road shows, speeches, in-depth
interviews, biographies and flashbacks - our
editors are able to recall, restore, rethink and
regenerate a library of material from this vast
treasury. That's why, on the 12th Anniversary of
our first two travel-business magazines - and the
30th Anniversary of the Africa Travel Association,
I am pleased to introduce some new
features.
A
Radio-Active Website with Video - is our hottest
item as we join the Insyc Portal with Africa Travel
TV . More to come regarding our broadcast
schedule.
Magic
of Technology - We offer a list of print ready
DOWNLOADS - available in the colorful, convenient,
easy to print PDF format we love so well. This
amazing technology, first introduced by Adobe is a
magic touch. The PDF, short for ' personal document
file,' is finally gaining the broad acceptance it
so rightly deserves. Features from back issues of
Africa Travel Magazine, plus other gems of interest
to our readers worldwide are provided via this web
site and partner sites that network with us.
History
in Mass Media
What
many readers do not know is that our first step in
publishing was a series of travel resource maps
showing various modes of transportation and links
between destinations. Several hundred thousand
copies were printed and distributed for our clients
Best Western Hotels and Avis Rent A Car to their
customers. This led to a Government of Canada
contract to create a "Supermap" of Air Routes.
Travelers needed to know how to get from here to
there - and who to contact. Most still do, judging
from the flood of e-mail requests we receive. At
meetings with Transport Canada and regional Airport
Managers, we arranged distribution via airports and
launched series of articles on gateway airport
communities.
In
1995 we launched Air Highways Magazine and Air
Highway Days, a conference to showcase member
airports and communities to the travel industry.
This success was followed by an Air and Marine
Tourism Expo. Good fortune continued to smile on us
that same year when, in partnership with the Africa
Travel Association, we launched Africa Travel
Magazine. It's 2,400 page web site now leads the
pack in many search categories.

Another
Flying Start
The
idea of combining the best of both magazines in a
single issue on Air Travel and Multimodal
Transportation has been on my mind for years. Last
spring it began to grow roots. At the ATA 30th
World Congress in Nairobi Kenya, our editors spoke
to many delegates - and in one group alone we
discovered that each person had flown a different
route to Nairobi. Some arrived from the USA via
Ethiopian Airlines, with a stop in Addis Ababa;
others came via Dubai, while many flew South
African Airlines. We began with a United Airlines
flight from Seattle to London; then flew Kenya
Airways. Other delegates flew with SN Brussels,
British Airways - and the list goes on.
My
point is that many travelers and agents have no
clue as to the variety of options now available.
So,using the same blueprint from the early 90s, we
proudly introduce "Air Highways to Africa." The
premiere issue debuts soon.

Regards. The Editor
