Ethiopian to Strengthen its Presence in the Middle East
Ethiopian Airlines, the fastest growing African carrier, has announced its plan to launch flight services to Kuwait and Riyadh starting June 2, 2008. The flights will operate Addis Ababa-Riyadh-Kuwait-Addis Ababa twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays with the return flights on Tuesdays and Fridays. As a direct route to Riyadh and Kuwait from the Sub Sahara Africa, this new service provides convenient connections for passengers originating from various points in Africa. Passengers will save trip time from points of origin to destination as well as transit time at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Currently Ethiopian operates 35 flights weekly to six destinations in the Middle East; namely - Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Beirut, Dubai, Jeddah and Sana'a. The introduction of two additional weekly flights to Riyadh and Kuwait will further strengthen Ethiopian's foot prints in the Middle East. Busera Awel, Ethiopian Vice President Commercial said, "We are pleased that our enhanced presence will provide travelers, particularly those in the Sub- Sahara Africa, with more convenient access to the Middle East, and we are also confident that the new link will stimulate increased exchange of commerce and tourism traffic between the Middle East and the African continent."

Riyadh and Kuwait are among the fastest growing cities in the Middle East. Riyadh is the largest city and capital of Saudi Arabia located in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula, while Kuwait, the capital of the State of Kuwait, is situated on the coastal region of the Persian Gulf.

Emirates Airlines Importance to Tourism in East Africa

"It is indeed a great honour and privilege for me to be here this evening to officiate the launching of Emirates Air daily flights to Dar es Salaam. May I take this opportunity on behalf of the Ministry of Natural resources and Tourism in particular, and on behalf of the tourism fraternity in general to express our appreciation to the Management of Emirates Air, for this noble initiative. Development of tourism depends on development of almost every other sector of the economy. Its development can therefore be easily hampered by the weakness of another sector. Tourism as an activity connotes movement of an individual from one place to the other. You will therefore, no doubt agree with me the airline industry is essential for development of tourism in any country."

Dubai Named Best Airport in Africa/ Middle East

Dubai will hold one of its biggest events when 6,000 agents of automobiles-maker Audi from all over the world meets in the emirate for the launch of the new car model in February 2006.

Mr. Awadh Al Seghayer, Director of Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB), which is part of the Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM), said: "This is going to be a very big event for Dubai as it is also the first time that Audi will be launching their new model in the emirate. The agents will be in Dubai for six weeks to test drive the car."

Dubai was selected over tough contestants like China and the US because of the MICE facilities it offers. The negotiations lasted nearly a year with the last meeting for finalizing the venue held during the IMEX-2005 between DCB and Audi in Frankfurt. Mr. Al Seghayer also highlighted the recent Dubai visit of a delegation from Audi to inspect the facilities following which they finalized the destination. The event is being held in cooperation with Gulf Dunes, a tour operator specializing in MICE packages. The General Manager of Gulf Dunes, Mr. Jamal Fathi, praised DCB's efforts towards promoting Dubai as a model MICE destination and said that this will be one of the biggest events for them as well.
