R3,000,000 TURNAROUND FOR
'CAPE TOWN HOTELS' GROUP

The Tulbagh & Palm Garden Hotels, part of the Cape Town Hotels Group, have recently undertaken to completely refurbish both Hotels due to the increase in tourism in Cape Town, people returning to the CBD and to pre-empt the opening of the Cape Town Convention Centre.

Set in the heart of the CBD, The Tulbagh Hotel started Phase 1 of the upgrade in 2002. This consisted of upgrading the rooms, creating an open plan lounge & bar leading onto the sidewalk terrace & turning the duplex Suites into self-catering apartments, ideal for long staying guests. Phase 2 will include a pool and recreation area that will involve turning the entire ground floor on its axle. All this is part of the Groups R3,000,000 project.

"Cape Town Council & Tourism bodies have done a tremendous job to bring people back to the City Centre & indeed Cape Town itself & we are in the process of upgrading our own Hotels to fall in line with the City's restoration." comments Sagren Naicker, Group Operations Manager.

Add to that the fact that the Hotel is +- 5 minutes stroll to the Cape Town International Convention Centre and it makes sense to inject this investment. As part of the new Staff team, David van Wyk has recently been appointed as Rooms Division Manager for The Tulbagh.

The Palm Garden Hotel in Sea Point has already completed its 'mock-up' room for its own R1,000,000 refurbishment. Shawn Mc Taggart, General Manager, assures the industry & guests that the Palm Garden will not lose any of its charm in the refurbishment. "It will simply be lighter, brighter and more in keeping with Cape Towns 'seaside ambience." states Mc Taggart.

Not only will the Hotel itself be upgraded but so has the Palms facilities. The nightly entertainment presently ranges from Blues Evenings, Piano Concertos to Calypso & African music. Following in line with the new look, the Executive Chef has created a Sunday Lunch buffet, "East meets West" to challenge the most hardened food critic by introducing specialities not seen before at The Palm.
