Letters:
I'm glad to see the aircraft sill in service. I
had not heard much about her since the last Delta
L-1011 was sent to her for parts. Has anyone
looked into getting the aircraft from Donald Trump?
Its the only one of the four original aircraft that
still is configured with the lower lounge. I would
expect that would be a good donor aircraft. I had
last seen the hospital ship when she was being
modified in Tucson. I had first seen her when she
was parked in the desert shortly after PSA had
received the 4 aircraft. I later planned and
supervised the 455 gross weight mod at Lockheed
Aero Mod.
I did the
estimates for her modification into the flying
hospital. It was one of the most interesting and
enjoyable programs of my career. I believe I met
John on one of my trips out to Tucson. I know we
had talked several times on the phone.
Are you
maintaining the aircraft yourselves or contracting
it out? I have lost track with most of our L-1011
people who were at Lockheed and at American Trans
Air, where I first worked the L-1011. Again, its
good to see she is doing the good work she was
intended to do. Frank Showalter, Greenville,
