MARA NATIONAL PARK & MT. KENYA SAFARI CLUB $
950.00* In the words
of Karen Blixen, author of "Out of Africa"&emdash;
"There's something about safari life that makes you
forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had
drunk half a bottle of champagne". Not only will
this tour intoxicate you with an unforgettable
opportunity to experience Kenya's wildlife, it will
offer you a unique opportunity to meet some of its
people, visit a noted landmark and to marvel at its
splendid natural resources. On Day
One, we depart the Inter Continental Hotel
promptly at 8:30 A. M. on Friday, May 20. Traveling
northward by road (3 hours), we pass through scenic
Kikuyuland, typified by large coffee growing areas.
Soon we approach Mt. Kenya, Africa's second highest
mountain. Then, at the foothills of this famous
mountain, it comes into view--- the famous and
luxurious Mt. Kenya Safari Club, once owned by the
legendary actor William Holden. We will spend two
nights here, luxuriating and imagining how your
name will now be included upon the list of notables
who have stayed here. We arrive in time for lunch
and then are shown to our accommodations.
Afterwards, we depart for a visit to the Nanyuki
Women Spinners and Weavers Project, noted for the
exquisite hand-woven rugs and artifacts, all of
which will be available for sale. On Day
Two, we have an early departure for Sweetwaters
Game Reserve, which is home to a wide variety of
wildlife. We will have morning and afternoon game
drives where, in the shadows of Mt. Kenya and
amidst savannah grasslands, lush green vegetation
and Acacia trees we will be lucky enough to see the
"big five". We will have lunch at Sweetwaters'
Tented Camp. Following the afternoon game drive, we
will visit Jane Goodall's Chimpanzee Sanctuary. We
return to Mt. Kenya Safari Club for dinner and
overnight. On Day
Three, we depart Mt. Kenya Safari Club and
transfer to the Nanyuki airstrip for our flight
(one hour, fifteen minutes) to the famous Maasai
Mara Game Reserve. The Mara, as it is endearingly
called, is probably the most famous and most
visited reserve in Kenya. It offers breathtaking
views (some of which were seen in "Out of Africa")
and an extraordinary density of animals including,
lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and, hopefully, that
elusive leopard. On arrival at the Mara Serena
Lodge, we will have lunch and an afternoon game
drive. On Day
Four, we will spend the entire day on safari in
the Mara, soaking up countless memories. Before
returning to the lodge, we'll make a visit to a
nearby Maasai village. Our final game drive will be
early morning on Day Five, after which we will
return to the lodge for breakfast. At 10:15 A. M.,
we must say goodbye to the Mara, hopefully taking
home stories of unforgettable experiences. We
transfer to the airstrip for our 11:00 A. M. return
flight to Nairobi, arriving at Wilson Airport at
12:15 P. M. To reserve
