East
Africa's Serena Hotels
While on a
Media Tour of Northern Tanzania, hosted by Tanzania Tourist
Board, three of Africa Travel Magazine's editors had the
privilege of an overnight stay at the beautiful Serena
Serengeti Lodge. It would take several pages to describe
this great experience, and we've armloads of photos in the
archives, so we'll leave that for later. With 10 luxury
properties in the most exotic locations in East Africa,
Serena Hotels is uniquely positioned to offer the ultimate
quality experience for discerning travelers. As they say,
"quality is the watchword throughout" - a fact recognized
internationally with various accolades given to Serena
properties. Two Kenyan hotels, the Nairobi Serena Hotel and
Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel, are long standing members of
'The Leading Hotels of the World' organization.
By the way, the several of our group enjoyed a balloon
safari arranged by the lodge.
Air
Services boost for Northern circuit
Serena Hotels luxury
properties in Tanzania's Northern Circuit are now more
accessible than ever with the expansion of local air
services. The new flights by Air Kenya and Regional Air
Services, provide previously unavailable connections, which
now allows direct access to the properties -
Lake Manyara
Serena, Ngorongoro Serena, Serengeti
Serena and Kirawira
Luxury Tented Camp. It also
facilitates
combination safaris with Serena's Kenyan properties and the
newly opened
Zanzibar Serena Inn. Flight
schedules are available from Air Kenya, Regional Air
Services or Serena Hotels.
Zanzibar
Serena Inn.
Serena Beach
Hotel is the only Kenyan Coast
property to be so recognized. In addition, two of the new
Serena facilities in Tanzania;
Zanzibar Serena
Inn and
Kirawira Tented Camp in Serengeti
- were recently accepted into the 'Small Luxury Hotels of
the World' organization. Serena's
reputation for uncompromising standards of quality has,
perhaps not surprisingly, attracted a growing VIP clientele,
which last year included American First Lady, Hillary Rodham
Clinton and her daughter Chelsea, who spent two days at
Serena's spectacular lodge beside the world famous
Ngorongoro Crater.
Amboseli Serena
Safari Lodge: In the shadow
of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Long a favorite of Ernest Hemmingway and of Hollywood film
makers, Amboseli National Park, with its herds of wild
animals grazing in front of the magnificent backdrop of
Mount Kilimanjaro, is the very "image of Africa" to many
visitors. Set in the heart of the park, Amboseli Serena
Lodge is designed in the style of Maasai " Manyatta", with
all 96 rooms offering either a view of 'Africa's tallest
mountain or the vast panorama of the game -filled plains.
Overlooking the swimming pool and landscaped gardens is a
sun terrace for game viewing.
The lodge's location on the edge of a
natural spring, make it an ideal setting for the big five
(lion, elephant, buffalo, cheetah and rhino), all of which
are seen regularly on game drives in the park. The lodge
also has an attractive, well equipped, air- conditioned
conference room, with a view of Kilimanjaro. It is suitable
for meetings, seminars or banquets for 100 conference
participants. The lodge is 260 km (a 3-hour drive or
30-minute flight) from Nairobi.
The 10 Serena properties: five in
Kenya, four in Tanzania's Northern Circuit and one in
Zanzibar, indicate that the hotel group is able to offer
tailor made safaris that are virtually limitless in their
choice. Serena has the distinction of being the only
purpose-built hospitality network in East Africa and a
massive investment program has ensured that the group's
properties offer unrivaled standards and facilities. In
keeping with the Serena philosophy of "Harmony with the
Environment", each of the establishments features ethnic
design and architecture, making full use of local materials
and blending in with their
surroundings.
