While studying towards a
diploma in hotel management awarded by the Swiss
Hotel Association at the renown Les Roches Hotel
Management School, Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo began
her illustrious career as an intern at the Hotel
Kluser in Martigny in Switzerland where she
began as a Service Intern. From there, she moved
on to the Zunfthaus zur Waag Restaurant in
Zurich, Switzerland, followed by the Les Roches
Hotel Management School where she became a
management Intern. Her international
experience is impressive, from Switzerland to
the USA - where she gained valuable experience
in a wide variety of fields including, amongst
others, banqueting, guest liaison, training and
housekeeping - Lindiwe has excelled at
everything which she has tackled. Upon completion of a BSC
Degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional
management (HRIM) at Penn State University,
Lindiwe's career with Hyatt was launched at the
Grand Hyatt, Washinton DC, starting off as an
intern and as a supervisor at the front desk.
Lindiwe then joined the Park Hyatt Hotel in
Rosebank from 1995 until the end of 2000.
Lindiwe worked her way up the corporate ladder
at the Park Hyatt in Johannesburg - starting as
Assistant Front Office Manager where she was
extensively involved in ensuring that the needs
of the guest were met, to her final position as
Director of Human Resources. In between, she
also held the position of Front Office Manager
and Director of Rooms. Lindiwe has shown her
versatility and ability to adapt to the various
positions in which she has held, giving her a
vast amount of experience across the
board. Following her lengthy
spell in the Hospitality Industry, Lindiwe made
the transition to the Department of
Environmental Affairs and Tourism in the
impressive position of Chief Director, Tourism
Support. The experience she gained in this
position broadened her horizons and her gave her
extensive insight into the hospitality industry
as a whole. The position also led to her working
hand in hand with organisations such as FEDHASA,
THETA and SA Tourism, as well as provincial
tourism authorities. Whilst this position
offered many opportunities and valuable
experience, Lindiwe has now returned to her
first passion - the hospitality
industry. Lindiwe is the new
General Manager of the Sandton Towers
Inter-Continental, and believes that as a woman
in a male dominated industry, her ability to
coordinate any function, no matter how large or
intimate and her proven track record in
customer- care and satisfaction, will be the key
to her success. Her leadership qualities
coupled with her extensive experience in
controlling expenses and coordinating budgets
will stand her in strong stead to ensure that
the flagship hotel of the Southern Sun Group is
transformed to higher levels of service
excellence that will be used as the benchmark in
South Africa. FOR INTERVIEW
